Have your own Ceramics Raku Workshop Party! (Beginner+)

Join us for a Raku experience party! The staff at Hacienda Clay & Kiln will provide a piece for you to glaze and fire and take home at the end of the class! We recommend this workshop for adults or kids over 16 accompanied by an adult. Great for birthday parties, office bonding, or learning a new craft with friends! 

This class will focus on Raku firing, an alternative firing process where ware is removed from the kiln at 1800*F and either placed in a "reduction chamber" filled with carbon-based materials which will give smokey colorations and patterns. The results are atmospheric and difficult to control, making it an exciting and dynamic process.

Tentative Class Schedule: 

10:00—10:15 arrival
10:15—10:45 overview & demo
10:45—11:30 glazing & loading kiln                                                                                        11:30—12:30 lunch break                                                                                                12:30-1:00 firing is complete and ware is cooled                                                            
1:00—2:00 unloading ware. cleaning of pieces, show & tell, studio clean-up

Health & Safety - Protective gear (gloves & tongs) will be provided, but students will need to wear closed-toed shoes, have long hair tied back, and avoid loose-fitting clothing which may get caught on items in the kiln yard.
